Wednesday

Well, the day started with thunder showers, keeping us off the rode for a morning ride.  And now at 5PM we have a nother round of weather that looks like it will scrub an evening ride as well.  Sounds like a "Cabernet" echoing in those thunder heads.

Still without the laptop so this is just a quick check-in before heading home.  I'm told that I will have the computer tomorrow morning, but the techie kept setting me up for this or that maybe not being fully installed.  I'm taking the over on having the machine before I leave town, but I'm hedging on the Internet access feature.  Definitely taking the under on the thing working 100% correctly.

The Valvoline Quick Lube Shop's price for a standard oil change on the Buick today was $41, net of a $7 coupon.  (I declined the passenger compartment filter for another $40!  It was $16 on the NAPA website.)  It's cheaper going to the dealer.

Sorry for the blog being so out of it this week.  Hope to add more from the road over the next three days.

the reason i went with a mac was partially due to the virus protection. i ended up paying more, but the guy assured me that macs don't get viruses like pc's do. we've only had it for a few days, but so far so good. and i got it set up and working in five minutes. it's pretty cool. i opted not to get the laptop because portability isn't that important to us. i got a 21 inch screen and like it much more than the little laptop we'd been using. there is no tower. everything is housed in the panel behind the screen (and it's not that big!) the mouse and keyboard are wireless. the mouse has these cool functions where you can scroll using your fingertip on the top of the mouse like you do on your touch screen phone or ipod. the iworks (mac version of word) will take some getting used to, but the guy walked me through some things in a demo and it looks easy and neat. i'm not saying i'm a 100% convert; any computer would have been better than what we were using, but i like it. i got the 2 year protection that covers everything, including power surges. then 1.1 and i got to talking about how much you spend on insurance and that got depressing.

on a different note, i really liked hearing pch's military stories. 1.1's dad was over tonight and i got some out of him, too. his navy career was pretty cush. 2 years outside vegas, 6 days on a transport ship to his next station in honolulu! he said he's almost embarrassed to tell people about it! he worked with the medical and dental staff.

srh should fill us in on her dad. ...

we switched to a mac about 2 years ago. Love it. Haven't had a virus since. If you want you can also run windows on the Mac.

We have the 20" at home - wish I would have gone bigger in hindsight.

I recommend buying the MS Office suite for MAC. Makes the transition even easier with Word, Excel, etc.

Sage knocked over our computer when I set it on the floor while reconfiguring the desk. It wouldn't boot up. Took it into a Mac store and (due to extended coverage I purchased), they repaired it (replaced power supply) at no additional cost.

I'm a convert.
