Monday

Down in the Bay Area. Hated to leave Tahoe. We definitely need to get back there next Summer. Let me re-phrase that: I will be back there next Summer. (UP and I drove over to South Shore last night and had a couple of beers in memory of my pal Wally at the Embassy Suites' outdoor bar. Very appropriate. Good, no,... great, memories. Then a pizza at Tomato's in Incline. Double suite.)

Traffic on I-80 was a head-ache. They're rebuilding several parts of the road, and those spots are a mess. So was close-in traffic in SF. Glad I don't have to do that everyday.

Happy Anniversary to 1 and 1.1. Hard to believe that it's been two years since the wedding. And congrats to 1 on securing a teaching job for the Fall. That's a pretty good present, Kiddo.

This may be the most mileage that I have ever driven in a rental car. A four-banger may get good gas mileage, but climbing the hills calls form a little more horsepower.

So I'm off to sleep to get ready for tomorrow's class. Never did get the pre-conference reading done. Surprise.

it really is the dream job. it's in the school district where i live, at the high school. the area and clientele is very similar to where i grew up. i interviewed about a month ago and left feeling awesome, but then didn't hear anything and thought they had hired someone else. i was pretty bummed. this year the district is opening a new high school (the district's third), and i also interviewed there-it was much more stressful-and did not get hired. I'm SO happy i got the first job; i got along really well with the principal. the job is a .83 position, which is perfect for us right now. the school is on a block schedule of 4 classes/day. the first semester i'll teach a full load-3 classes-and the second semester i'll only teach 2. i'm due to have the baby at the end of january, so it will be nice to just be working part-time. i'm mildly stressed about telling them i'm pregnant and about how much time i'll get off seeing as how i'm so new. mostly, it's awesome to get into the district because it is growing and i won't be so worried every year about being on the chopping block. it will be different because the students will be much different than the kids i taught last year. i suppose i'm at a much higher risk of seeing my parents and students everywhere, which will be awkward but okay. nothing is signed yet, they're running the background check this week and once that comes back clean i'll sign on. so that's the skinny! now i get to relax for the next month....starting in two days in boston!

Whatever, I loved running into my teachers outside of school.

* European History teacher at a Bush Rally, in '04.

* AP Lang/Comp teacher several times after SHE was a glass or two of wine gone at Biaggis.

* Multiple teachers multiple times at Hy-Vee. Maybe you want to venture a little farther for groceries...

I never saw a teacher at the gym, but imagine that would be kind of weird. At least for non-athlete students, especially fat ones that aren't in as good as shape as you.

Also, you should stock up on Graduation cards on sale now.
