Maybe a few comments on "helicopter parents"?

I sort of feel like I'm taking an essay test with dad's suggested topics each day. And I'm fairly confident that I am not getting a particularly good grade. Dad is using his praise to lure me into continued commenting. Isn't it lucky for you all that I have so much free time around this joint.

For those of you who don't know what a Helicopter Parent is:

"A helicopter parent is a term for a person who pays extremely close attention to his or her child or children, particularly at educational institutions. They rush to prevent any harm or failure from befalling them or letting them learn from their own mistakes, sometimes even contrary to the children's wishes. They are so named because, like a helicopter, they hover closely overhead, rarely out of reach whether their children need them or not." (Wikipedia)

(haha, I cited Wikipedia. I'm a bad writer) I had to look it up, I had never even heard of the term. I guess I'm really out of the loop. Katie or AM are better suited to comment on this topic. I pretty much refuse to let mom and dad be helicopter parents. Call me masochistic. Although I do remember a specific incident wherein mom called my high school chemestry teacher and told her that if someone with my intelligence got a C in her class then it was more an indication that she was a poor teacher and motivator than it was that I was a bad student. I remember thinking at the time a.) that might be a litttle over the line, and b.)GO MOM!

That teacher was a self absorbed wench. Although I admit was my own fault that I let her behavoir dictate my performance. I should have just suppressed my dislike for her and applied myself appropriately. And then I would have gotten a better grade, which I certainly had the ability to earn.

Whatever, it was junior year, there was a lot of teenage angst. I think Michael was dating some chick from Bettendorf, it was all really hard for me. I'd rather not think about it. Actually, now that I think about it, I might have been dating Jason. Probably I dated both of them jr. year. And let's recap: 1 is engaged and the other is married. AND I'm pretty sure the girl from BHS that Mike was dating (much to my heartbreak at the time) is also married.

Suite taste in men, Mary. Although I think a lot of people could have predicted this exact outcome five or more years ago. Jason married and in med school and michael engaged and a teacher? I just had too much ambition for those guys!

Anyways, I got lost on a tangent. I don't have much to say about helicopter parents. Anyone else?

Have a fabulous weekend! I'll be in the office if you need me!
