Saturday

Sunny but cool day here in River City.  We've had several days of recurring snow squalls leaving an inch or so of new stuff each day.  Our collective mental health can use the sunshine.

I'm pretty impressed with Cheaptickets' monitoring of my activities on their website.  2 and I did some checking last night on some fares to Reno if I were to participate in the Sonoma weekend in August.  In my Yahoo inbox this AM, I had an email from Cheaptickets describing their Reno deals for the dates that we had placed in our travel query last night.  You're never below radar.  Your electronic footprints will always lead back to you.  CSI is all over everything.

Probably the biggest story in the local news lately has been the City of Davenport's decision to proceed with an acquisition from the current private-enterprise owner of the local gambling boat (that is moving to a land-based site).  The mayor and the City Councilmen have been the initiative behind the purchase while there has been a steady and vocal opposition force coming mostly from business leaders.  I mean, local politicians are masters of casino operations, right?  How could anything possibly go wrong?  People questioning the concept are anti-Americans, right?  Sound anything like Washington?

The Davenport Assumption girls won their third consecutive state basketball championship last night in DM, this year in the 3A division.  Iowa has five classes for girls basketball.  The winning margins for Assumptions three games were 46 in the quarters, 37 in the semis, and only 22 in the finals.  Assumption basically plays only 5A teams during the year, and they lost only 2 games against that competition.  I'm really not sure what the team learns by going down two classes for the tournament and having no competition.  Not that the school had discretion.

Maroon 5 was at the iWireless Center last night to a sold-out crowd.  I wasn't there.

On the health report, I did have a glass of wine a couple nights this week (2 glasses with 2 last night).  But I'm leaving the status at 90% of normal.  I still get tired.

My goal is to get my non-short story done this weekend.  So I'm closing this and heading home to pick up that task.

Thanks for reading.
